Special Meeting with Elected Representatives

Find out what is happening at the Capital directly from the Legislators.
In recent weeks we have seen chaos at the capital with the entire DFL House boycotting this Legislative Session. The Session was opened on time by the Republicans. At issue was how many members needed to be present to have a quorum in order to elect a Speaker. The Minnesota Supreme Court decided just last week that 68 House members needed to be present to constitute a quorum, and the Republicans only have 67 representatives.
In order to explain this mess, we have invited six House legislators to address the voters in Bloomington (3 DFL and 3 Republican). Only the Republicans have responded while DFL Reps. Elkins, Coulter and Howard who represent Bloomington have not. We are hopeful that they will attend. Come with your questions for these elected officials to hear where things are and where they are going.
It will be held at City Hall in the Blackbox Theater this Saturday at 10am. Don't miss it!
DEI on the Outs
With the new Administration now installed, the whole landscape has changed with respect to DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). Companies like Caterpillar, Harley Davidson, Microsoft and now even Target have decided to ditch DEI. Why? Because it is bad for business. First, by focusing on external factors like race and gender to hire staff, less emphasis is placed on hiring the best candidates. Second, millions of customers have led soft boycotts of these companies and it has cost sales, not to mention being a public relations nightmare. Companies are returning to their roots and focusing on what matters most. Will the City of Bloomington do the same? Make your voice heard. Speak at Listening Sessions just before City Council meetings, or email/call your City Councilmembers and School Board. Nothing will change unless we demand it. Demand they "Ditch the DEI" and return to merit-based hiring so we get the best value for our tax dollars at City Hall and Schools!
What's Next in Bloomington?
Once again, we are in election season in Bloomington with 3 City Council seats and 4 School Board seats up for grabs. This is our year to flip both bodies to common-sense governance. District 1 - Incumbent - Dwayne Lohman (Precincts, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7) District II - Incumbent - Shawn Nelson (Precincts, 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15) At-Large - Incumbent - Chao Moua - City Wide (All Precincts) RFABB will evaluate the performance of incumbents based on their historical voting records and anticipated future activities within the council. Additionally, RFABB will communicate the platforms of any candidates challenging these incumbents. We believe that this transparency allows for accountability, encourages potential challengers when incumbents are underperforming for their residents and will allow all residents to make an informed vote. As a result, RFABB will be looking for volunteers to help with this analysis. Email us if you are interested in this need. |

By the time “things get bad enough” in our communities across Minnesota, it may be too late to turn back the clock. RFABB is making a difference. Our members are speaking out at legislative hearings, contacting our representatives and gathering petitions to repeal Rank Choice Voting in our city.
